Over the past week I have been seeing the hashtag #iifym on instagram. It stands for "if it fits your macros." I have been doing a bunch of research on it and today is actually my third day trying it out.
So what exactly is IIFYM? Basically, you calculate how much protein, carbs, and fat you need in a day and make sure by the end of the day you hit those numbers no more than 5g under or over. It is a very flexible way of eating. You still need to eat mostly healthy but say you want some ice cream or cookies or whatever it may be, as long as you can fit it in your macros, it won't affect your body composition.
This topic really interested me. I love to enjoy some unhealthy foods once in a while (don't we all) and now as long as I calculate it into my macros, I don't have to feel guilty whatsoever. Now I am not saying you can just eat junk food all day long and not gain any weight. It would be super hard to hit your macros with just junk food anyways. But basically if you eat 80% "clean" and 20% "unclean", you should be able to reach your fitness goals and not have to feel guilty about having a piece of cake.
You may be wondering how in world you find out your macros. If you go to iifym.com there is a calculator that will do the math for you. All you have to do is basically fill in some simple information such as gender, age, weight, ect. and it will tell you the numbers you need to hit everyday. After you figure this out you will need to either download an app to track your food or use a website online. I personally use myfitnesspal. I would also advise you guys to do some research yourself because I deff don't know everything about iifym.
I have tried this for two full days and feel great. I haven't really had a cheat yet but I notice I have a ton of energy from sticking to my numbers. I am going to take a before and after picture in about a month and then update you guys to see if I have had any positive results from this.
Have you heard of IIFYM?
